A comparator body is the main attachment piece for caliper-based measurement tools used in reloading. It clamps onto your standard calipers to hold interchangeable inserts, allowing you to precisely measure cartridge headspace or bullet seating depth (from the ogive to the case head) rather than just overall length.

The body attaches to the blade of standard calipers with a thumb screw, creating an adapter for either bullet or headspace inserts.

In many systems (like the Hornady Lock-N-Load tool), the body features an off-center slot. This specific design lets you align an Overall Length Gauge with the caliper for exact free-travel (jump) measurements when setting up seating dies
